WINEMAKER NOTES

This wine is medium-bodied with powerful but approachable tannins. Aromas of violets, boysenberry and rose petal strike first with flavors of blackberry and black tea throughout the length of the wine, lasting to the back of the palate and beyond. This wine would pair wonderfully with spaghetti bolognese, baked macaroni and cheese or southern-style collard greens.

VINEYARD NOTES

Montepulciano is a red grape varietal believed to have originated in the Tuscany region of Italy. It is the second most widely dispersed indigenous varietal after Sangiovese. Our Montepulciano comes from a 150-acre ranch owned and managed by Lowell Stone. After traveling throughout Italy, Lowell Stone planted an encyclopedic array of Italian varietals on the bench land between Hopland and Ukiah more than 20 years ago. Located 8 miles north of Campovida on the banks of the upper Russian River and sitting at more than 750 feet of altitude on a west-facing slope. This site provides ideal growing conditions for this very late-ripening, red varietal.
